Veterinary or wellness exams allow us to check up on your pet’s overall health and wellbeing. Depending on your pet’s age and health issues, we’ll need to make appointments more regularly than once a year. Wellness exams allow us to perform routine procedures and ensure we’re up-to-date with the ways we can support your pet’s health.
When should I book my pet’s appointment?
The frequency of your pet’s visits are based on their overall health, age and breed. Puppies and kittens need more frequent visits since they’re more prone to illness and need to establish their wellness plan. During their early weeks of life, we like to see them fairly often. For example, they need vaccinations when they are 8, 12 and 16-weeks old. Healthy adult pets should see us yearly. Healthy senior pets should see us at least twice a year. What do you check up on?
We’ll ask you general questions about your pet’s overall wellbeing, including how often they eat, bathroom habits, activity levels and lifestyle. We’ll also perform a physical exam to assess their mobility, eyesight, hearing, reflexes, skin health and teeth. This information determines their wellness plan, which is created with their unique needs in mind. Based on this, we’ll make recommendations about the types of vaccines, diet, parasite control plan and dental care your furry friend should receive.
